Mopar is launch-ready with 200-plus Jeep Performance Parts and accessories for all-new Wrangler
Lineup of Mopar products for all-new Wrangler is culmination of more than 100,000 hours of development, testing and validation
Mopar is showcasing a selection of its 200-plus product portfolio for the all-new 2018 Jeep® Wrangler with a pair of personalized vehicles on display during press days at the LA Auto Show. The FCA US display at the Los Angeles Convention Center includes a four-door 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and a two-door 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sport uniquely customized with a selection of Jeep Performance Parts and accessories from Mopar.
The Mopar brand's new lineup for the all-new Jeep Wrangler, first teased in late October during the 2017 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, was created after more than 100,000 hours of development, validation and testing. Most of the 200-plus new Jeep Performance Parts and accessories from Mopar for the all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be available when the vehicle arrives in dealerships.
"The Jeep Wrangler is one of the most versatile and customized vehicles in the industry," said Pietro Gorlier, Head of Parts and Service (Mopar), FCA. "A total of 98 percent of Jeep Wrangler vehicles are typically outfitted with at least one of our products. We worked with the Jeep brand, engineers and designers to create an exclusive line of parts and accessories that perfectly match the new Jeep Wrangler, delivering unique functionality, style and factory-backed quality. The two customized vehicles at LA showcase our new product portfolio and empower owners to personalize the new Jeep Wrangler for extreme off-roading or for all-purpose lifestyle adventures."
An array of new Jeep Performance Parts and accessories pulled from the Mopar brand's menu enhances the already legendary off-road capability of the four-door 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.
A set of 2-inch-round steel tube doors adds to the open-air freedom of the all-new Wrangler. The four-door's eye-catching Mojito Green exterior, a production option, is protected by new Jeep Performance Parts rock rails that are thicker and wider than previous offerings and augmented with a new, grippier coating similar to that used on Ram Truck bedliners.
The production Rubicon front "Stubby" bumper assembly defends the Mopar satin black keystone-shaped grille from trail obstacles and features a water-resistant Mopar Warn winch kit with die cast construction and includes synthetic rope, a wired remote control and hawse fairlead.
The 2-inch lift kit raises the Rubicon for off-road clearance and works in conjunction with production high-top fender flares. BFGoodrich KM2 35-inch tires wrap around new Jeep Performance Parts beadlock-equipped 17-inch aluminum wheels that feature a 12 mm offset to accommodate oversize tires and help tackle off-road conditions.
New LED off-road lights, available in 5- and 7-inch applications, pump out a maximum of 8,000 lumens, putting commercial and military grade illumination into the hands of hard-core off-roaders. The off-road lights mount to the frame rails or windshield via new Jeep Performance Parts off-road light brackets. A new auxiliary switch bank, standard on the Rubicon and an available option for other trim levels, features its own power distribution center and offers an organized central area for operating accessories such as the off-road lights, winch and other electrical-powered items.
A Jeep Performance Parts snorkel embellished with the all-new Jeep Performance Parts badge attaches using a hood cutout kit and works in concert with a Mopar cold-air intake to feed cool air to the 3.6-liter engine and keep water out during deep-water crossings. The all-new Jeep Performance Parts badge is also a unique Mopar accessory that can be applied to toolboxes, Jeep exteriors and more.
The new spare tire tailgate hinge reinforcement is also stamped with the all-new Jeep Performance Parts badge and provides a rock-solid foundation for a spare tire carrier that mounts to the tailgate with strength enough to handle 37-inch tires. The new Mopar Center High-Mount Stop Light (CHMSL) light relocation kit keeps the brake light visible when using the spare tire carrier, without interfering in use of the rearview camera.
Interior customizations include redesigned Mopar Roadside Assistance and First Aid kits. Molle bags on the rear seatbacks allow for extra storage and new Mopar grab handles are now hard-secured with fasteners to the sport bars, offering increased grip.
Durable, all-weather floor mats fit like a glove and feature a new topographic design inspired by the rugged Moab trails. An integrated plug allows accumulated water and debris captured in the high-walled mats to be drained without removal. Katzkin leather seats are embroidered with the distinctive Jeep grille logo in Tungsten stitching. A screen protector, another first-ever Mopar product, protects and even enhances visibility of the 8.4-inch Uconnect system display.
Mopar-modified 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sport
Mopar accessories and Jeep Performance Parts work together to deliver go-anywhere, adventure-ready personality and fun utility for the two-door 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sport.
The Mopar roof rack - the first-ever for a Wrangler vehicle - is mounted to the hardtop and is accessorized with a cargo carrier that is added for transport of gear and equipment to fit any active lifestyle. Bicycle, ski and snowboard carriers are also available options.
The newly redesigned Mopar hardtop headliner enhances and insulates the interior while providing a quieter ride. The exterior of the white Wrangler stands out with new American-flag-themed hood graphics and silhouette bodyside graphics that mirror the famed Moab trails.
BFGoodrich KO2 35-inch tires feature Mopar 17-inch "Gear" rims inspired by the shape and design of the all-new Jeep Performance Parts logo. Jeep Performance Parts tube steps and a 2-inch lift kit add off-road touches, and like its four-door counterpart, the two-door all-new Wrangler is also customized with the new spare tire tailgate hinge reinforcement, CHMSL light relocation kit and off-road LED lights.
A first-ever Mopar tailgate table that can be mounted with or without the new production Trailrail system conveniently flips out to create a utility space and beverage holder and folds up for storage. Katzkin leather seats are embroidered with the distinctive Jeep grille logo.
The black fuel door, new from Mopar, has been redesigned to incorporate styling cues of the all-new Wrangler. Mopar doorsill guards, grab handles and all-weather floormats round out the Mopar accessories
The Mopar line of Jeep Performance Parts and accessories for the all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler will be available for purchase when the Wrangler arrives in dealerships. For more information
Autonomy and Jeep on the Salt Road for the “International Day of Persons with Disabilities”
Set up in 1981 - the international year of disabled persons - the "International Day of Persons with Disabilities" is celebrated all over the world on 3 December. Since 1993, December 3rd is also the "European Day of Persons with Disabilities", following the will of the European Commission, in agreement with the United Nations.
For over twenty years, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has paid close attention to the issues of disabled people's mobility, and enthusiastically joined the project several years ago. Autonomy is the programme designed to provide answers to the needs of customers with reduced motor, sensory or cognitive abilities (and to their caregivers) to help them use cars and secure their freedom of movement.
On the "International Day of Persons with Disabilities", thanks to Autonomy and Jeep Off Road - an initiative of FCA, a brand renowned worldwide for producing cars that are not only perfect off-road vehicles, but also four-wheel drive emotions and a symbol of absolute freedom of movement - several young people with disabilities were able to experience a great adventure on the unpaved roads between Piedmont, Liguria and France, along the so-called "Via del Sale" (Salt Road), on board of five cars (a Renegade Trailhawk, a Wrangler Unlimited Black Edition, a Wrangler Unlimited Sahara and two Wrangler Unlimited). In the past, this route was travelled by shepherds, pilgrims, muleteers, traders and travellers, who set out from Ponente Ligure and nearby Provence to reach Piedmont and Northern Europe through the Alpine passes, and start a dense network of trade exchanges. The Salt Road today is a cultural trail (there are many churches and other points of interest) and an outdoor tourist route with many opportunities for trekking, MTB and, of course, off-roading.
In the 2017 edition, the Jeep Off Road confirmed the tested formula it used in the past: three days off the road with two nights in a tent (this year, one night on the Sestriere mountains and one along the Salt Road), involving three young boys on wheelchair: Lodovico and his mum Clelia, Federico and Ivan. Mirafiori Motor Village, Ferrino (for technical equipment) and Freewhite sport for the disabled (for the organization) were partners in this initiative.
We posted on Jeep's social pages and YouTube channel the "Jeep Off Road - Salt Road 2017" video, which narrates this wonderful experience through touching images and the exciting comments of the youngsters.
The words of the three young protagonists reveal the feelings of those who have seen their lives change in an instant, after an accident, or those for whom a disease has meant a radical change of habits. Three strong personalities, who faced misfortune without losing the will to live their own lives in a way that - though different from the past - is no less rewarding.
For each different disability, and mobility need, there is Autonomy, with its full range of cars or commercial vehicles from the FCA Group brands: Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Abarth, Jeep and Fiat Professional. Furthermore, Autonomy brings a number of services that provide practical help for any problem linked to driving a car adapted to the possibilities of disabled drivers. At any of the 19 mobility centres scattered around Italy (Ancona, Bolzano, Budrio, Catania, Cerignola, Cuneo, Florence, Latina, Milan, Padua, Pietra Ligure, Reggio Emilia, Rimini, Rome, Salerno, Terni, Turin, Treviso and Udine), Autonomy customers can test their motor abilities with special simulators, they can learn to trust their modified vehicles and they can also consult doctors, physiotherapists and operators of the centres.
The Jeep Off Road project, therefore, fully supports the "International Day of Persons with Disabilities". In addition to raising awareness on matters related to disability, the day wants to draw attention to the advantages of an inclusive society which is accessible for everyone, by encouraging public administrations, civil society, academic institutions and the private sector to work together with the organizations of people with disabilities to organize events and activities that celebrate this day.
Among the many objectives, the promotion of more and better knowledge of the issues of disability. As well as promoting awareness, the project also supports the full inclusion of persons with disabilities in every domain of life, and the rejection of any type of discrimination and violence. Finally, we should not forget that this day urges us to search for solutions to improve inclusion of disabled people into society.
The legendary Alfa Romeo 158 celebrates the brand's return to Formula 1 at the inauguration of the FIA Hall of Fame
At the inauguration of the commemorative space dedicated to the great victories of Formula 1, the public was able to admire the first championship-winning single-seater in history
The Alfa Romeo 158 driven by Nino Farina won the first Formula 1 World Championship in 1950
Its presence at the inauguration of the FIA Hall of Fame was as timely as ever, considering the return of the Alfa Romeo brand to Formula 1
The FIA Hall of Fame opened yesterday at the Paris Headquarters of the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile in Place de la Concorde. It is a gallery that was created to celebrate the history of Formula 1 and pay homage to the heroes who made this motor sport great over the decades. At the same time, the Hall of Fame was created to underline the key values of the competitions: passion, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect for other competitors, so that they can inspire future motor sport champions.
The presentation event coincided with the first annual ceremony of investiture: thirty-three drivers who have won the most important title in motor sport, the FIA Formula One World Championship, at least once, were celebrated at the Automobile Club de France.
More than 20 racing drivers were there, and alongside them there were some of the most iconic cars in the history of Formula One. Brought to glory by Nino Farina and from
"La macchina del tempo - Museo Storico Alfa Romeo"
, the legendary Alfa Romeo 158 could not but be among these. The car is part of the prized FCA Heritage collection, the department of the Group dedicated to protecting and promoting the history of the Italian FCA brands.
Alfa Romeo's return to Formula 1
Its presence is as timely as ever, considering the return of the Alfa Romeo brand to Formula 1: in fact, the prestigious FCA Group brand has signed a long-term technical-commercial partnership with the Swiss Sauber F1 Team starting from the next season. The team will be called Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team, and the agreement provides for strategic, business and technological cooperation in all possible areas of development through the sharing of Alfa Romeo's engineers and specialised technical personnel. The partnership forms the basis of additional opportunities for the two companies in Formula 1 and the automotive industry in general.
Alfa Romeo GP Tipo 158, the first Formula 1 world champion
Alfa Romeo is synonymous with racing and technological prestige worldwide. It has taken part in Formula 1 from 1950 until 1988, as both a manufacturer and as an engine supplier. At its debut in 1950, Alfa Romeo won the first Driver's World Championship with Nino Farina in precisely the Alfa Romeo 158, which was launched at the end of the thirties. At that time, Alfa Romeo was rising again, thanks to aviation and heavy goods vehicle production, and an increasingly appreciated automotive product. For Ugo Gobbato, engineer and company director, the issue to tackle was racing - not in the Sports category, where Alfa Romeo is almost unbeatable, but in the Grand Prix. Alfa Corse was founded to increase competitiveness, and in parallel a new car was designed, with a 1.5 litre supercharged engine, a category that was set to become the premier class from 1940 on.
The team led by Gioachino Colombo sketched out the lines of the GP Tipo 158, soon to be nicknamed the "Alfetta". It had an unprecedented inline eight-cylinder engine with twin cam timing and a Roots volumetric compressor. The gearbox and differential were a single block on the rear axle. Initially, its power was 195 HP, but in 1939 this rose to 225 HP. With a top speed of 232 km/h, the streamlined single-seater made its debut at the Coppa Ciano in 1938, winning the first two places in front of an enthusiastic audience. Then came the Milan GP and a series of victories that closed prematurely with the Tripoli GP in 1940, when the outbreak of war interrupted all competitions. Without an overall ranking at the end of the conflict, the race resumed with difficulty, and in 1947-1948, that of the "Alfetta" - now with 275 HP and capable of 270 km/h thanks to its two-stage compressor - was overwhelmingly superior.
In the 1950 season, it raced in the first Formula 1 World Championship. The power of the Alfa Romeo 158 rose to 350 HP at 290 km/h, and the cars were entrusted to the three "F"s team - Nino Farina, Juan Manuel Fangio and Luigi Fagioli - a trio of which the designer Giuseppe Busso said "the main problem was deciding which of the three pilots should win the championship". The 158 won six of the seven races that were valid for the ranking, deserting the Indianapolis 500, as did all of the European manufacturers. Alfa Romeo remained undefeated since its debut at the Silverstone GP, winning the first three places in the ranking, with Giuseppe "Nino" Farina the first champion of the newly formed Formula 1.
A success repeated in following year, when the 159 single-seater won the world title again thanks to champion Juan Manuel Fangio.
Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT wins Auto Bild Sports Cars readers' choice award
Readers of influential German magazine Auto Bild Sports Cars choose the Jeep® Grand Cherokee SRT as best import in the Vans and SUV category
The award underlines the versatility of the legendary US brand
The high performance Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT has been honoured by readers of the influential German magazine Auto Bild Sports Cars. The powerful 468 horsepower model scooped the readers' choice award for best import in the Vans and SUV category.
It is the first time the famously knowledgeable readers of the magazine have chosen a Jeep model as a winner, underlining the huge appeal of the sports inspired premium SUV.
The 2017 edition of the awards saw a total of 110 models compete across 15 categories. Among the standout features that saw the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT win its category, was its 6.4-litre HEMI V8 naturally-aspirated engine. Generating 468 hp of power and an impressive torque of 624 Nm at just 4,100 rpm without turbocharger from its hemispherical combustion chambers, it's considered one of the last high-performance aspirated engines.
The award demonstrated the range and versatility of the Jeep brand and proves that its extensive range of off-road vehicles and SUVs is winning over even the most demanding fans of high-performance vehicles in Germany.
Jeep Grand Cherokee is the flagship of the Jeep brand and the most awarded SUV ever. Since its introduction in 1992, it represents the Jeep benchmark in terms of power, comfort, innovation and craftsmanship.
This year, Grand Cherokee celebrates 25 years of 4x4 leadership - a milestone anniversary underscoring how it has defined the premium SUV market, while bringing to life the Jeep brand's pioneering spirit and quest for technical innovation. Available in a full line-up with 6 trim levels - Laredo, Limited, Overland, Trailhawk, Summit, SRT - and the new Trackhawk that will be introduced in the first half of 2018, Grand Cherokee has been sold in more than 6 million units worldwide since its introduction 25 years ago.
Jeep® Compass attains maximum five-star EuroNCAP rating
Award highlights the safety-enhancing technological advancements of the iconic brand's latest model.
Availability of more than 70 safety systems and high-strength 'safety cage' contribute to award.
Five-star rating comes at a time when the EuroNCAP test is more stringent than ever.
The new Jeep Compass has attained the maximum five-star EuroNCAP rating, the manufacturer's latest model incorporating the latest technology from the iconic brand, scored positive ratings in all categories - including adult protection, child protection, pedestrian protection and driving assistance safety systems.
The result is even more significant considering that it meets the 2017 severe, ever increasing EuroNCAP standards, underscoring how the Jeep Compass has been developed with safety and protection at its heart. The new compact SUV combines the brand's legendary off-road capability with user-friendly technology and a full array of driving assistance systems - all wrapped up in a distinctive modern design.
Making a major contribution to the Jeep Compass's maximum five-star rating are the effectiveness of its 'safety cage' - 65% of which is constructed of high-strength steel - which ensures very high torsional strength and enhanced occupant protection, plus the availability of more than 70 active and passive safety systems that set the new standard in the Jeep range.
Safety systems fitted as standard on the new Compass range available in Europe include active driving assistance systems, such as Forward Collision Warning-Plus and Lane Sense Departure Warning-Plus, which combine radar and video camera technology to recognise potential collisions and prevent impact by alerting the driver with audible, visual and tactile warnings. Plus, under certain conditions, these systems use the electronic steering (EPS) to assist the driver.
Jeep Compass also features additional safety systems, available either as standard or optional depending on the version, specifically designed to assist with motorway driving. Among these is Adaptive Cruise Control - which maintains distance from the vehicle ahead and in certain circumstances, can bring the vehicle to a full stop without driver intervention; and Blind-spot Monitoring (available in the parking pack), which aids the driver when changing lane and notifies of vehicles in their blind spot via illuminated icons on the side-view mirror and with a driver-selected audible chime. The safety equipment offering available on new Compass also includes specific systems to assist with parking maneuvers, such as Rear Cross Path detection which notifies drivers backing out of parking spaces of vehicles crossing behind via illuminated icons on the side-view mirror and with a driver-selected audible chime.
All these systems complement the 'five-star' standard safety and security features of the Compass range for the European market that also include six airbags (frontal airbags for the driver and front passenger, side curtain airbags for all rows and side airbags on the front seats) and ESC (electronic stability control) with ERM (electronic rollover mitigation).
